Topic: Yes Videography is Important!

Hi there everyone!

I wanted to start out the Videography Forum with a little education on videography, as it seems the more couples I run into, the more I get the vibe that they don't understand videography's place in the wedding!

The obvious question posed by couples alike seems to be " Should I get Photography & Videography, or just Photography?"    I am here to tell you that BOTH are just as important.  It's like asking yourself, "Should we have a dinner, or just cake at the wedding?"  seems silly to only have one, as they fill different purposes.

Here's the main reason to have both - they are different medium's recalling different memories from the day!  The photo's show the beauty and sentiment of the day (i'm not a photographer, so forgive my naive description).  The video let's you see and HEAR the what happened that day.  I like to think of the two coupled together in a sort of docu -tell all style that encompasses the whole day in all it's glory, both visually AND audibly.

Just a brief note - thoughts??

Re: Yes Videography is Important!

I do agree with you, that some couples do view the Wedding Video as an afterthought. Where Wedding Photos are seen as an essential part of the big day, the video is seen as some what as a luxury, if budget allows.

Also some may feel that having a videographer present may ruin the privacy and intimacy of the event. As I work fulltime as a professional videographer I can only speak from my own experience and feedback I receive from my customers is that they all love the video and it brings back so many memories and allows them to relive the day exactly as it was. I even had one bride last year who thought her day was a disaster and thought nobody had enjoyed themselves. When she watched the video she phoned me and couldn't thank me enough as she seen for herself how wrong she was and that her Wedding was great.

I do feel that a Wedding Video is one of the most treasured and valueable item you will ever own ( if it is filmed and produced correctly. A badly shot video by an amateur or a well meaning relative can actual tarnish your memories of your special day.)  A professionally shot film that captures both you and your partner tying the knot, shedding a tear, seeing and hearing your family and friends all together sharing your special moment is priceless.

The days of the 80s were Wedding Videos were seen as boring is long long gone. Modern digital technology and the modern HD High definition Cameras allows a true cinematic film in broadcast quality.

A survey in american said 60% of brides regret not getting their Wedding Filmed.

Re: Yes Videography is Important!

Since I have been busy with other projects, I consciously cut on number of weddings a season without realizing that it just coincided with the overall trend. Last weekend the DJ working at the reception with me shared his observation, and here it is: if 5-7 years ago 4 out 5 wedding parties hired a videographer, to now the ratio had changed down to 1 to 5. What is it: crisis, bad marketing, generational change, combination of factors?
