Have you tuned into E!’s hit show, Bridalplasty? It’s a more recent reality show that involves brides competing to receive plastic surgery before their big day. Think Biggest Loser meets Nip and Tuck meets Four Weddings. I was skeptical at first, but decided to give the show a try after hearing all of the fuss about it.
While people may feel they need cosmetic surgery to feel about themselves, the fact that plastic surgery has become so normalized and desired is a truly sad aspect to our society. The cost, the pain, the recovery time, and the life altering aftereffects is something that should truly be examined before becoming so quick to go under the knife.
Plastic surgery isn’t all it is cut up to be ( pun intended). The mental and physical recovery is one that should not be taken lightly. Bridalplasty tends to ignore these factors and turn the show into a dramatic competition to win a surgery (or multiple surgeries) that will change a bride entirely for her wedding day, and for the rest of her life.
Aside from the potential permanent scarring, recovery time, and cost that plastic surgery brings, the show does not focus on the real reason why these brides are getting married in the first place. Their fiancé loved them and desired them before they began competing to go under the knife, so why change their bodies entirely? Part of everlasting and unconditional love is being able to love someone regardless of their bodies, weight, or appearance; Bridalplasty does not instill that aspect of marriage at all. This show is a heart wrenching and superficial reality show that does not focus on one of the most important part of love: acceptance of the other person!
Are you an avid watched of Bridalplasty? What are your thoughts on the show and it’s contestants?
