adventurous cake flavors for 2011!

In the wedding industry, everyone likes to take risks. This year we will be seeing many bold, beautiful, modern, and fun trends. What if I told you to go bold when picking out your…cake?

Yes, believe it or not, cakes and cupcakes design and trends are hot in the wedding world. This year, the wedding cake industry is welcoming bold and different flavors and cake themes for 2011 weddings.  The person to thank for this? TLC’s Cake Boss Buddy Valastro. His show is hit across the world and is pushing the envelope ( or should we say frosting?) on how to create the most unique and unforgettable cake.

You don’t have to pick crazy unusual flavors to take part in the unique cake flavor movement. Here are some wedding cake flavors for 2011 that are different but absolutely delicious.

Red Velvet:  You’ve seen and read how popular red velvet cupcakes are, but what about a red velvet cake with vanilla-cream cheese frosting? Classy, modern, and popular everywhere, this flavor is a favorite among many.

Coconut:  This is the perfect flavor for a beach or tropical wedding. The coconut flavor combined with an exotic fruit buttercream filling is sure to send you to the tropics and put you in the mood for a destination themed wedding. Or, if you’re lucky enough to enjoy a destination wedding, why not have this flavor for your cake? Might as well add to the ambiance, right?

Fruit Filled:  Think of your favorite pie filling– Strawberry? Lemon Meringue? Peach? Any sort of fruit filling you enjoy in a pie, can be a part of your wedding cake too!  Combine flavors like a vanilla cake with banana crème filling or a chocolate cake with strawberry filling in the middle. Mix and match ideas and flavors with your baker of choice and decorator to see which ones appease your taste buds. Who says a cake filling has to be a butter cream or or whipped cream? Throw some fruit in the mix!

Neapolitan:  In 2011, many couples will go for a modern theme for their wedding , a few however may opt to go back in time and enjoy celebrating their matrimony in a different era. Neapolitan was a very popular flavor in the mid 1900s. Known for it’s classic pink, white, and chocolate colors ( strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate flavors), this classic color and flavor combination is an oldie, but a newbie when it comes to using it for a wedding cake flavor for 2011.

Gingerbread Cake:  This is a bold cake flavor that is unusual, but does have it’s place in the winter wedding season. For winter and holiday themed weddings, consider this unique but fun cake idea. If you’re not completely sold on having a gingerbread flavored cake, then have the frosting, décor, and cake accessories resemble that of a gingerbread house.

2011 is about to be a year of new beginnings, and bold cake flavors…As the saying goes, let them eat cake! Happy Cake Tasting!
